Bharathiya Culture

India has had a continuity of tradition for over 5000 years. It has been one cultural entity. India, i.e. Bharath has had geo-political oneness since pre-epic times.
There is a popular misconception among many people that India has never been one country prior to the arrival of the British. There is also a feeling that India is one today because it is a Hindu Nation. Both these views are misconceptions.
Many eminent thinkers like Max Muller, Rabindranath Tagore, Jawaharlal Nehru, Girilal Jain, Rajiv Gandhi, among others have constantly said that India has been one country from time memorial because of its cultural links, rather than the political oneness under a single King like in the European sense.

In this subject capsule, we look at India as one cultural entity, its cultural links, for the past 5000 years across the length and breadth of the country, from different perspectives. From this it would be amply clear that the oneness of India is not only in its political unity alone but also in the cultural ties of the people which has sustained the oneness of Bharath.
Some of these cultural links are:

  1. Customs - Shell Bangle, Sindhoor, Anga Vastram, Head Band.
  2. Abhishekam
  3. Pilgrimage
  4. Chatram
  5. Religion
  6. Law
  7. Administration - Panchayat system
  8. War
  9. Sankalpa
  10. Geography
  11. Athithi
  12. External View
  13. Hindu Dharma

One Cultural entity
These cultural links go to show that India has been one cultural entity if not one political entity for over 5000 years.
The European Continent is made up of over 20 nations politically. They have lot of cultural similarities among themselves. Building on these cultural bonds, they are over the last couple of decades slowly gravitating towards a one European community.
The people of Bharath had realized this notion of one cultural community of India and have reaped the benefits of this oneness over the last 5000 years which the European community is now aiming for.
