A Research Forum For Traditional Sciences of India
A Joint Intitative of Ved Vignan Maha Vidya Peeth, Art Of Living, Bangalore and Bharath Gyan, Chennai
A 3 day brainstorming session called “Sanathana Vignana Parisamvadah” was held between 13th and 15th of June, 2008 under the aegis of the Art of Living International Centre, Bangalore. Initiated by Ved Vignan Maha Vidya Peeth and Bharath Gyan, Chennai, this Parisamvadah was attended by over 50 emminent traditional scholars and distinguished scientists from all over India. The purpose was to brainstorm and discuss ways and means to unravel and bring out the scientific treasures in the traditional Indian knowledge systems.
The objective of the initiative is to set up a platform to bridge traditional scholars and the scientist community and facilitate research in traditional Indian knowledge systems in order to bring out tangible applications of these sciences for the benefit of the world at large. Some of the areas in which research will be undertaken are :
- Materials and metallurgy of ancient Vimana for use in aeronautics as well as other fields
- Natural paints which are non toxic by nature
- Concurrence of computations and observations for a corrected Panchanga
- Earthquake prediction model
- Ayurvedic Medical Astrology
- Engineering techniques to be learnt from Indian Architecture
Besides discussing these research projects, one of the main items accomplished during this meet was formation of a team and approach to establish an online encyclopaedia of scientific terminologies in Indian languages, traditional sciences and etymology of Indian words in world languages, to enable further research and understanding of the ancient scientific texts correctly.
It was also emphasized that schools for traditional knowledge systems be setup and a Shilpa Kala Kendra wherein the Viswakarma school of thought and training will be revived and propagated was discussed as the first step along with the 64 arts.
This Parisamvadah was inaugurated by Acharya Ratnananda of Ved Vignan Maha Vidya Peeth, and he listed out the various sciences of Indian knowledge in which research should be taken up in his Keynote address. Swami Pragyapad of Ved Vignan Maha Vidya Peeth, welcomed the scholars and offered support in all their research endeavours.
Dr. B.S.Acharya, Home Minister of Karnataka, during the Valedictory session, appreciated the importance of this brainstorming session and mentioned that the Government has a Directorate for Sanskrit language and it was planning to start a Sanskrit University.
His Holiness Sri Sri Ravishankar, launched this research initiative and honoured all the scholars and scientists. In His benedictory address, He appreciated and encouraged the scholars and assured them of continued patronage in their research initiatives.
