S.T. Ramesh

Dr. S.T. Ramesh was born in Bangalore on 4th July, 1951. He obtained his B.Sc. degree from Saint Joseph College, Bangalore. He joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1976. He has served in many districts of Karnataka in his career as well as the assistant Director of Intelligence Bureau, New Delhi. He finally served as Director General of Police, (DGP), Karnataka, before his retirement in 2011.

He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) by the Tumkur University for his thesis, "Reflections on Law Enforcement".

He was awarded the President of India Police Medal for Meritorious Service on Independence Day in 1995. He has also been awarded the President of India Police medal for Distinguished Service on the occasion of Independence Day in 2007.

He has been conferred the "Endangered Species Award 2000" by the Wild Life Trust of India for executing several seizures of illegal wild life products of raw ivory from poachers and carvings from traders. He had the unique privilege of being the member of the security team of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. He was the architect of work place policy for HIV/AIDS in Karnataka police.

Dr. S.T. Ramesh is a keen sportsman and a connoisseur of Carnatic music. He practices meditation and has avid interest in the heritage of India.

He brings with him, his wide range of experience in administration and keen interest in the knowledge of India.
